Bar of the Month: Windsor Alehouse

Windsor Alehouse, 42 Punt Rd, Windsor

Join us as we pay a visit to The Windsor Alehouse which used to be The Pint on Punt.

The bar recently underwent extensive renovations to transform it into a modern day Northern suburbs style pub. It boasts 19 taps of beers which consist of around a third Lion Nathan beers, Little Creatures Boags etc and the other third craft beers. Of the craft beers, they feature a few one offs which are hard to come by.

There is typical good pub grub and Wednesday is parma night where you can grab a parma for only $18. It is also open mike night so if Carlo wanted to do a bit of standup here's his chance. They also have a good selection of wines for those on the dark side.

The bar is located near Fitzroy St / St Kilda Road Junction and many trams can be taking to this junction, trams 3,5,16,64 and 67.

Sunday Sessions - Bridge Hotel Ricmond

642 Bridge St, Richmond

The Bridge hotel is situated up the top end of Bridge Rd. Out of the way of the hustle and bustle of the big shopping district, it is a true Local Pub. What used to be a typical beery bar is now an indoor cobblestone laneway, off of which springs balconies, saloons and gardens. There’s Banksy-esque street art. There’s an American diner with checkered floors. There’s a garden replete with stuffed birds; a bathtub on the stage of the drum decorated music room and a full-sized cow statue hanging out the window. It’s like Main Street Disneyland crossed with your favourite pub.

But the kicker here, the thing that makes the razzle-dazzle of it all applause worthy rather than naff is the fact that it’s still a pub. You want a beer? Good. Cause that’s what everyone’s drinking, and it’s probably a Carlton Draught at $4 a pot. Even though it is a Carlton Pub it still has a decent range of boutique beers like Moo Brew and Mountain Goat, and a sturdy selection of wines, but make no mistake: there are no fedoras behind this bar, and while they’ll happily make you a Negroni, you’ll be charged for it by the shot.

Trivia Night - Sherlock Holmes Inn

415 Collins Street, Melbourne

Join us for a trivia night at the Sherlock Holmes on Collins Street which is a British styled pub located on Collins Street.

The trivia night is hosted by comedian Janet McLeod and offers winners $50 food & drink vouchers as well as quiz rounds for Jugs of Beer, Bottles of wine, etc.She is a well respected comedian and has a way of getting you involved in the night.

The Sherlock Holmes opened in 1985 and the hostelry has been extremely well received, as have its comestibles, ales wines and spirits. So much so that the worst criticism has been that the establishment is too small for the large numbers of discerning citizens who wish to avail themselves of the sundry attractions which this unique tavern affords.

Here is a home for the aficionados of the works of the eneffable Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, where the friendly shades of Dr Watson, Professor Moriarty (a changed man since he went over the falls) and the Stradivarius-playing, opium-smoking genius himself, the Great Detective, await your pleasure.

So meet Nicole at the reserved table for a fun trivia night.

Day Trip to Maldon on Victorian Goldfields Railway

PTV Hub, Southern Cross Station

Step back in time on the Victorian Goldfields Railway.

Today we will be travelling to the Historic town of Maldon on the Victorian Goldfields Railway's Steam train travelling first class. The town itself was once a thriving metropolis. Maldon's reputation as a picturesque historic town, known for its intact 19th century town centre is well established.

One of the most important late 19th and early 20th century townscapes in Victoria, Maldon began as a gold rush town in 1854 with the discovery of alluvial gold at the base of Mt Tarrangower. It developed as an industrial mining town during the later years of the 1800s. As one of Victoria's richest quartz mining centers, various mines at various times recorded the highest returns in the State. Mining declined in the first years of the 20th century, the last mine of the era closed in 1926, and the town's population and fortunes similarly declined....

We will have 2 hours in Maldon for Lunch at The Kangaroo Hotel before heading back to Castlemaine on the train. Lunch at own expense,
